Spring/Summer 2014 Fashion Trends: Must-have clothes

  • Sol Rivero

We’ve told you all about the Spring/Summer 2014 jewelry trends, and now it’s time to take a look at the fashion trends that will complement them! Here are the must-have clothes you should own right now for the new season:

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #6: Pleated skirts

The preppy look is extremely popular for the new season, with pastel colors and lovely floral prints. One of the top must-have clothes you should definitely add to achieve this look is a pleated skirt, a staple for the Spring/Summer 2014 season. You can choose the length: from mini, to midi or longer, the pleated skirt is a favorite.

You can look for something unique with metallic shades or unusual shapes to add some extra edginess to your outfit.

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #5: Contrasting collars

Long and baggy button-downs were very popular during the fashion shows from the Spring/Summer 2014 collections. However, designers added a little fun touch to this menswear-inspired fashion trend, by presenting blouses with collars in contrasting colors and even textures.

Go wild: find a blouse with a bold print and a collar with a neutral tone for a one-of-a-kind ensemble.

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #4: Athletic getups

Many of the designers opted for adding a sporty look to their Spring/Summer 2014 collections, mainly through trousers and jackets inspired by workout clothes. Fitted trousers with stripes are some of the favorites, in colors such as pastels and white.

Short dresses or top-skirt combinations inspired by tennis-attires, or warrior-looking long dresses in dark colors and eye-catching stripes, will also be some of the top athletic fashion statements.

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #3: Tea-length skirts

Long skirts continue to be popular for the upcoming seasons. Between the maxi-length from the Spring/Summer 2013 season, and the midi-length from the Fall/Winter 2013 season, comes the new favorite for the season: the tea-length skirt. This item covers the leg right until mid-calf, giving it a really conservative look.

Make it fun and chic by pairing it with a sheer or crop top, or look for a tea-length skirt in a metallic shade or with unique applications and embellishment.

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #2: Wide-legged pants

Comfort and relaxation are two of the main themes for the new season, which is why you’ll probably love the wide-legged pants trend. For Spring/Summer, look for long and loose trousers in pastels or neutral colors, and combine them with tight tops for the perfect and comfy chic look.

If you’re on the shorter side, don’t be afraid to add these items to your closet: pick a pair of wide-legged pants with a high waist, preferably in dark colors such as black or navy –they’ll make you look leaner and taller.

Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trend #1: Crop tops

The main must-have for the Spring/Summer season is a flash from the past, specifically, the 90’s legendary crop top. It’s perfect for a fresh and youthful look, yet it might seem a little risky for some. The crop tops cover just half of your upper body, so they’re perfect for gals with a lean figure who are looking to show off their bodies during the warm months.

If you prefer something a little more subtle, you can opt for combining loose crop tops with fitting undershirts, or an elegant cropped jacket with an eye-catching print.
