Spring/Summer skin care tips for feet

  • Sol Rivero

The warm months are perfect for wearing sandals and open shoes to enjoy the fresh air and keep your feet cool. Yet, it’s also the time of the year when you should pay extra attention to your feet’s health and beauty, which is why today we bring you some skin care tips for feet which will help you treat them properly during the Spring/Summer season.

Skin care tip for feet #5: Wash and dry thoroughly

After a long day outside, all we want is a quick relaxing shower and a lot of rest. But sometimes we can forget about taking the time to clean our feet properly. When you’re in the shower, use lukewarm water and soap to wash your feet thoroughly, especially in the areas between the toes. This will help you get rid of moisture and bacteria.

After you’ve stepped out of the shower, grab a clean towel and dry your feet carefully. Make sure you eliminate all the water, paying particular attention to every crease and opening.

Skin care tip for feet #4: Use the proper shoes

Sandals are a staple of the Spring/Summer season, but some are forced to wear closed shoes due to work, sports or other activities. Since the extra heat of the environment will increase the temperature inside your shoes, it’s important to look for materials which allow transpiration, such as cotton, or just look for athletic shoes which contain breathable elements.

Also, avoid wearing heels for too long, since they can damage the bones and the skin of your feet, and don’t forget to wear comfortable and breathable socks made with cotton.

Skin care tip for feet #3: Protect your feet against fungus

The warmth and the constant exposure to water during the summer season can be a recipe for disaster if you don’t take good care of your feet. Avoid walking barefoot in places like pools, wash your feet regularly and thoroughly, and look for anti-fungus creams, powders or sprays at your local pharmacy so you can give your feet some extra protection against bacteria when you go out.

Skin care tip for feet #2: Exfoliate and moisturize

The skin on your feet is particularly vulnerable to dryness and flakiness, and since you’ll be showing your feet with open shoes during the Spring/Summer season, you’ll probably want them to look their best at all times. Submerge your feet in warm water for a few minutes –or do it right after showering-, and use a pumice stone or scrub to get rid of all the dead skin.

After your feet are soft again, use creams, lotions or natural oils and butters to moisturize the skin. Look for ingredients such as petrolatum, lactic acid, glycerin and hyaluronic acid, since they’re perfect for hydrating your skin.

Skin care tip for feet #1: Wear sunscreen

During the sunny months you’ll often see health tips reminding you to wear sunscreen. Most people, however, focus on areas like the face, shoulders, arms and legs, yet they neglect to protect the skin of their feet. Like any other part of your skin, your feet can also suffer from an extreme exposure to sunlight, so if you’re leaving your home wearing a pair of sandals, then make sure you don’t forget to apply a layer of sunscreen on them.
