BAFTA Awards 2014: Red Carpet Fashion Trends

  • Sol Rivero

The BAFTA Awards were held yesterday, and today we show you which were the main fashion trends sported by celebrities at the ceremony’s Red Carpet.

BAFTA Awards 2014 – Trend #5: Unkempt hair and statement eyes

We did see some gorgeous statement red lipstick and elegant updo hairstyles at the BAFTA Awards, but the reigning trend was definitely a more natural, toned down look with wavy or messy locks, smoky eyes and pale lips in nude tones, corals and pink hues. Stars Cate Blanchett, Josephine de la Baume and Uma Thurman were amongst the many who sported the trend.

The natural look was a perfect complement for the eye-catching outfits with ruffles, embroidery, bold colors and appliqués.

BAFTA Awards 2014 – Trend #4: Cleavage

It was a night for showing a little something at the BAFTA Awards 2014, and many celebrities opted for revealing a little skin with bold V-shaped cleavages, like Michelle Rodriguez, Naomie Harris and Lily Allen; and more modest approaches, such as the sheer and sensual tops worn by Josephine de la Baume or Alicia Vikander.

Others preferred cut-outs, like Olga Kurylenko and Imogen Poots; and some showed their toned legs with flirty dresses, like Uma Thurman, Lea Seydoux and Gwendoline Christie.

BAFTA Awards 2014 – Trend #3: Metallic accessories

The Red Carpet from the BAFTA Awards was full of simple and delicate accessories, most of which had the basic silver or golden hues, in either bracelets, lovely chokers, drop earrings, purses, and statement rings. Our favorites of the night have to be Lupita Nyong’o’s gorgeous golden cuff bracelets, and Cate Blanchett’s beautiful silver pendant with cute birds.

BAFTA Awards 2014 – Trend #2: Black

Black was definitely the color of the night at the BAFTA Awards, appearing in all kinds of outfits: from Angelina Jolie’s suit to Amy Adams’ gorgeous long gown, and even the details of Michelle Rodriguez’ dress. Navy (Josephine de la Baume, Gilian Anderson), white (Sai Bennett, Samantha Barks) and golden (Rita Wilson, Fearne Cotton) were also amongst the favorite hues from the British ceremony.

Notable exceptions came from Lupita Nyong’o’s gorgeous green dress, as well as Lily Allen’s bold red, coral and orchid gown, Naomie Harris’ hot pink dress, and Olga Kurylenko’s black and orange ensemble.

BAFTA Awards 2014 – Trend #1: Tuxedoes

The boyish trend is everywhere, even at the BAFTA Awards’ Red Carpet. Angelina Jolie surprised everyone by deciding against a regular gown, and attending the event with a gorgeous black-and-white tuxedo matching that of her partner, Brad Pitt. Ruth Wilson decided on a bolder approach with a sparkly, silver suit with details in red.

Dresses were certainly the top choice of most celebrities, but we definitely loved to see these rebellious and trendy ensembles at the Red Carpet.
