Paris Fashion Week: Haute Couture Spring 2014 – Day 4

  • Sol Rivero

Day 4 of the Paris Fashion Week included the Haute Couture Spring collections of Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab and Valentino amongst many other top designers. Here are the main fashion trends of the day!

PFW Haute Couture Spring 2014 – Day 4 – Trend #4: Country girl and ballet dreams

Amongst the offers from day 4 of the Paris Fashion Week we saw many outfits inspired by folkloric attires or exotic places, and decorated with colorful shawls sporting artisanal motifs. Another trend we could also spot was the dreamlike tulle cocktail dresses and surprising ensembles which reminded us of ballerinas, as well as the recurring appearance of 20’s fashion though sheer dresses and beautiful embroidery.

PFW Haute Couture Spring 2014 – Day 4 – Trend #3: Draping and studs

The Haute Couture runways were full of voluminous dresses with draped fabric and gowns decorated with beautiful embroidery, put together with layers of pearls and studs. Other ornaments included 20’s-style fringes, 3D-printing inspired wide nettings, 80’s shoulder pads, and delicate appliqués of flowers and butterflies.

PFW Haute Couture Spring 2014 – Day 4 – Trend #2: Prints

Gowns with impressive and colorful prints were in vogue during day 4 of the Haute Couture Spring collections. The ensembles from the Paris Fashion Week displayed plenty of ornaments, from conventional floral patterns to prints inspired by cubism, contemporary art, tribal or oriental motifs, and wild animals such as lions, birds and stags.

PFW Haute Couture Spring 2014 – Day 4 – Trend #1: Butterflies

While some of day three’s collections showed gowns which seemed like voluminous buds and flowers, day 4 showed Haute Couture outfits inspired by the colorful elegance of butterflies. From makeup details with winged butterflies and shawls full of butterfly-shaped appliqués, to full gowns molded as gorgeous butterflies with large and vibrant wings or multilayered cocoons, these beautiful creatures motivated the concepts of many of the designers’ outfits.
