New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trends from days 1-4

  • Sol Rivero

We’re halfway through the New York Fashion Week, and today we take a look at days 1 to 4 of the Fall/Winter 2014 runways! Colors, prints, shapes…here are the trends we can’t wait to try out this year:

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trend #5: Sheer paneling

The sheer-craze is not going away anytime soon, and even in the seasonal sub-zero temperatures, designers are still presenting gorgeous outfits with sensual semitransparent textiles and silhouettes. During the first four days of the New York Fashion Week we’ve seen dresses adorned with lace, impressive cut-outs and gorgeous embroidery, sometimes combined with large capes or coats to fight off the winter chill.

A lovely alternative we also caught at the New York Fashion Week runways, was the use of sheer tights with studs, bold colors or even eye-catching patterns. This year, it’s all about creating a sensual and flirty silhouette for the Fall/Winter season.

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trend #4: Bright colors and large patterns

Who said fall and winter fashion should be dull? If there’s something the past seasons have in common, is creating bold outfits to brighten up the cool months. During the first four days of the New York Fashion Week, we’ve seen quite a variety of large patterns: from floral prints to geometric and abstract motifs; as well as eye-catching colors such as hot pink, bright yellow, blue, green, orange, and even neon shades.

The usual muted tones and tartan prints are still in vogue, but designers are opting for a fun and colorful Fall/Winter season for 2014. And we love it!

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trend #3: Black and golden jewelry

We haven’t seen that many accessories at the New York Fashion Week runways, but those we have seen are definitely remnants of the past seasons, channeling the punk spirit with large, spiked or studded jewelry; or the minimalistic trend with golden necklaces and cuffs. Layered chains, pendants with geometric shapes and simple bands are still the favorites, and for a more sensual and glamorous look, large earrings with filigrees.

Some of the other accessories we saw at the catwalks were fanny packs, rope necklaces, large hats and statement nails.

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trend #2: Statement red

The New York Fashion Week runways for the F/W season have been full of muted tones such as black, white, stone, gray and dusty pink, as well as some splashes of bright colors, but if there’s a shade that we’ve been seeing absolutely everywhere is red. In skirts, pants, shoes, gloves, details, dresses, coats, capes, and even tights… red and similar blush hues are definitely the statement colors for the Fall/Winter season.

New York Fashion Week F/W 2014 – Trend #1: Boyish look

The Fall/Winter woman from the New York Fashion Week is a bold and chic urban lady. As such, she’s ready to face the chill with oversized coats, shirts, trousers; dark colors, camouflage prints, studded outfits and short haircuts. Overall, there’s a tomboyish look in many of the F/W collections for this year, as designers opt for a less pronounced silhouettes and go for loose -and sometimes heavy looking- layers of clothes.

The punk and minimalistic trends have also been in vogue during the first four days of the New York Fashion Week, and both have helped to strengthen the boyish trend with their rebellious and androgynous spirit. For this year’s Fall/Winter season, invest in oversized clothes and dark makeup: you’re going to need it!
